Task 1 – In this experiment, you will carry out tests and observe the results of individually adding a reagent to different positively charged metal ions in solution. These cations will be tested with two different reagents: NaOH and NH₃ solutions. Each metal cation reacts in a different way with each reagent.

Task 1 – In this experiment, you will test for several negatively charged ions (sulfates, carbonates and halides). The halide ions included are chloride, bromide and iodide. You will need different reagents for each test. Testing for sulfate ions is carried out by adding diluted HCl and BaCl₂ to the anion solution. Carbonates are identified by the CO₂ given off when adding dilute acid. Halide ions are tested by adding diluted HNO₃ and AgNO₃.
